About the role

Snowy Hydro is seeking an Operations Controller to join its Hydro team in the Murray Region. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, this position plays an important part in maintaining safe plant availability and reliability through strong technical understanding of plant operations. The role involves responding to alarms, diagnosing and fixing defects, carrying out routine maintenance, and planning and executing isolation and restoration activities to allow safe access to plant and equipment.

Key duties

• Carry out isolation and restoration of plant and equipment when required.
• Examine isolation and restoration plans to make sure risks are properly addressed, and help prepare these plans where needed.
• Run generators, pumps, hydraulic equipment, and supporting systems within approved competencies and authorisations.
• Respond to alarms, indications, and equipment defects so plant availability and reliability are protected.
• Complete return-to-service checks at both system and subsystem level in line with procedures and required competencies.
• Perform a range of maintenance tasks using the assigned work packages, and keep job records and work order history updated in the maintenance management system.
• Take responsibility for electrical installation and repair work, including verification and sign-off in accordance with regulatory and internal standards.

The role is based in the Murray Region, with the local community of Khancoban offering a scenic and relaxed lifestyle. The area is known for its natural surroundings, affordable housing, and strong work-life balance. Nearby towns include Corryong and Albury-Wodonga, and the region provides access to the Kosciuszko National Park, ski resorts, hiking, camping, mountain biking, 4WD tracks, horse riding trails, and water activities such as fishing, swimming, kayaking, SUP, and water-skiing at the Khancoban Pondage.

About you

To be effective in this role, you should bring plant reliability experience from heavy industry, supported by either an electrical or mechanical trade background. You will need solid knowledge of maintenance planning, analysis methods, and maintenance management practices, along with strong communication skills for dealing with a variety of stakeholders. Familiarity with WH&S, EEO, and environmental standards is expected, as well as confident computer use for spreadsheets and statistical analysis. You must also be available for an on-call roster and hold HV switching authorisation.
