Role overview
This position is for a dependable and observant security professional to help protect private premises in Ottawa. The role focuses on keeping the site safe, controlling access, and responding appropriately to incidents while maintaining a professional presence at all times.
Key duties
- Monitor and manage entry to the site through access control.
- Carry out regular foot patrols both inside the building and around the exterior areas.
- Help discourage theft, damage, and other unwanted activity.
- Stop unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas.
- Apply and uphold client site rules and procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations and calls for assistance.
- Work professionally and flexibly in changing operational conditions.
- Use clear communication in English; French is an added advantage.
Mandatory clearance requirement
Applicants must qualify for an Enhanced Top-Secret Security Clearance. This process requires the ability to provide extensive documentation covering at least the last 10 years of residency, work history, travel, education, and other personal records.
The clearance process is thorough and may involve detailed disclosure of personal information, a private security interview, conversations with neighbors, colleagues, and/or friends, as well as criminal background screening with fingerprints, polygraph testing, psychological testing, and a full credit review including disclosure of assets and debts.
Qualifications
- No security guard license is required to apply.
- Applicants should be dependable, mature, and able to work days and/or nights based on operational needs.
- All selected candidates must be prepared to work 12-hour night shifts on either 0600-1800 or 1800-0600 schedules from the start of employment.
- Ability to complete both indoor and outdoor patrols during daytime and nighttime hours is required.
- Strong customer service ability is important for the role.
- The job calls for someone who can follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills are needed, including working knowledge of Excel, Word, email, and access control systems/software.
- Education in Police Foundation, Community and Justice Services, Customs & Border Services, Correctional Services, Security Management, or a related university-level program is considered an asset.
- At least 2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
Compensation and benefits
- Pay is $28 per hour.
- A full benefits package is provided after 3 months.
