Role overview
This position is for an experienced mechanical technician supporting detailed base maintenance on Typhoon aircraft in Dukhan, Qatar. The role reports to the Mechanical Junior Supervisor and requires proven hands-on experience with Typhoon maintenance, the ability to work from approved technical data, and strong adherence to the organisation’s regulatory framework.
The ideal candidate should bring solid knowledge of Typhoon aircraft and assemblies, be comfortable following diagnostic procedures, and contribute effectively as part of a maintenance team.
Core activities
- Carry out detailed inspection and maintenance work on Typhoon mechanical systems, ensuring all tasks are completed against the correct work package and approved technical information, while helping resolve faults and maintenance concerns, including configuration control awareness.
- Perform assigned maintenance tasks on Typhoon mechanical systems such as removals, inspections, repairs, modifications, fault rectification, replacements, and functional or system testing as required.
- Adopt a proactive and adaptable approach to the responsibilities of the role and respond appropriately to direction.
- Keep a personal task authorisation valid for component-level work in line with QAF requirements.
- Provide progress updates to the supervisor against delivery targets.
- Support base maintenance facility tasks needed to remain compliant with MOE and QAF procedures, including oversight checks and tooling/test equipment control.
- Assess faults found during maintenance and raise ad hoc work cards for those issues.
- Ensure all maintenance activity is properly recorded and that airworthiness records are kept up to date on the relevant IT and paper systems; produce required reports, flag issues, and escalate them when necessary.
- Maintain a personal log book to prove currency and recency, complete OJT records, and countersign other personnel’s log books where appropriate within trade and skill boundaries.
Performance and compliance
- Lead by example in delivering maintenance work effectively, meeting deadlines, tracking progress, and escalating anything that could affect continuing airworthiness.
- Work in line with the regulatory framework, related procedures, standards, and any other company policies; recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Apply human factors and error management principles throughout maintenance activity and understand how risks are identified, controlled, and reduced.
- Ensure maintenance work supports continuing airworthiness assurance requirements and aligns with the MOE.
- Demonstrate appropriate understanding and application of continuing airworthiness regulations, support regulatory changes in maintenance processes, and comply with requirements such as ITAR, EaPW, and ISO.
- Meet all contractual obligations relevant to the role.
Essential requirements
- Prior mechanical maintenance experience on the Typhoon platform.
- Completion of an engineering apprenticeship, preferably in aeronautical engineering, or an equivalent military apprenticeship or qualification.
- Minimum academic qualification of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance, or an equivalent credential.
- Aircraft platform training completed or available as an on-aircraft requirement.
- Broad and deep technical knowledge within the specialist area, with an understanding of how the team contributes to wider operational goals and continuous improvement.
- At least 1 year of experience working in Typhoon base maintenance.
- Demonstrated currency and recency through a log book showing skills, knowledge, and authorities for work on the aircraft type.
- Practical knowledge of aviation safety standards and safe operating methods.
- Awareness of expositions and functionally mandated procedures management training.
- PDR training or equivalent experience.
- Strong IT literacy.
Desirable experience
- Compliance with risk assessments, SHE policies, and related procedures.
- Experience using the Maintenix system (IMS) and Eurofighter support system (ESS).
- Typhoon Mechanical Q Course.
- E&PW awareness training.
- ITAR awareness training.
- Fire training in line with Qatar GFx specification.
- Human factors training.
