Position overview
This role is suited to someone who has already moved beyond graduate level and is still building toward a senior accountant position. The accountant will handle a portfolio of clients and their day-to-day work, with strong emphasis on meeting deadlines, staying in close touch with the wider team, and making sure clients have a positive experience. Guidance and direction will come from both the Senior Accountant and the Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Own and manage individual work and job reporting responsibilities.
- Assist the Senior Accountant and Manager by completing assigned tasks.
- Prepare BAS, income tax returns, and financial statements.
- Carry out review checks on BAS and individual tax returns before sending them to clients.
- Support preparation for tax planning discussions.
- Help prepare for VCFO meetings and management reporting sessions when needed.
- Suggest practical ways to improve client systems and internal processes.
- Draft replies to client questions for review and approval by the Senior Accountant.
- Monitor and update weekly utilisation in the workflow capacity spreadsheet.
- Raise workload concerns early if capacity is too low and seek additional tasks from the manager.
- Flag excessive workload promptly so managers can review and rebalance client work.
- Review and assign items in the mail folder, escalating uncertainties to the Senior Accountant or Manager.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of accounting policies, procedures, operational methods, and system changes.
- Work continuously to improve efficiency in systems and overall business practices.
- Recommend changes where appropriate and ensure company policies and procedures are being followed.
Work expectations
The position requires consistent communication, ownership of assigned work, and active coordination with managers when workload levels change. The accountant is expected to work across client deliverables, internal reporting, process improvements, and policy compliance.
