Role overview
Northern Star Resources Limited is seeking an Ancillary Operator for its KCGM Super Pit operation in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The site is a major open-pit gold mine with a mine life of more than 10 years, offering a long-term opportunity in a residential 7:7 roster that supports a family-friendly lifestyle. Northern Star operates at a global scale across Western Australia and Alaska and is guided by its STARR values: Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results.
What you will do
- Work under direction from operators to keep benches at the correct level and maintain orderly housekeeping that supports efficient mining.
- Ensure dump areas stay at the proper relative level, with haul roads and pit floors kept smooth, level, and free of dips or raised material.
- Help reduce dilution by separating ore from waste, mining ore blocks in the correct direction, and setting ore faces at the right angles.
- Coordinate with the shovel operator on the sequence of bench advancement and removal while identifying hazards and improvement opportunities in advance.
- Use the dig plan map to strip material according to plan and update all voids as black/white or red/white areas by the end of each day.
- Operate the digger to pull batters and remove batter material so walls remain stable, loose material is controlled, and additional ore near the pit edge can be recovered where possible.
Experience and qualifications
The role calls for at least five years of experience operating a range of large production mining equipment in open-pit or quarry settings, plus two years of broad hands-on experience with heavy mining equipment such as loaders, excavators, diggers, water trucks, and haul trucks. Candidates should live in the Goldfields region, understand mining sequence processes and site activities well, and have solid computer skills. Dispatching experience is not required, although it would be an advantage. A current unrestricted C-class driver’s licence is required. A current MR licence and Quarry Manager Certificate are not mandatory, but would be beneficial.
Benefits and rewards
- Subsidised GU Health cover.
- Short-term incentive bonus scheme.
- Employee share plan opportunities.
- Gold-standard parental leave policy.
- GoldSTARR rewards offering cash savings on everyday purchases.
- Employee Assistance Program with free, private counselling and wellbeing support.
- Salary continuance cover from the start date.
- Salary packaging options, including novated leasing and remote area living benefits.
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy pre-employment checks, including a medical assessment, drug and alcohol screening, verification of the right to work, and a valid Australian national police clearance. Northern Star is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.
