Custodian

Role overview

This position focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment across assigned buildings. The work includes routine janitorial duties as well as more intensive cleaning tasks such as floor care, rug shampooing, wall and glass cleaning, and waste removal.

Key duties

• Remove and dispose of waste in line with approved procedures and infection-control requirements.
• Dry dust and damp mop floors according to established cleaning methods.
• Relocate furniture and equipment to clean effectively, then return everything to its proper place.
• Clean assigned spaces using the provided supplies and equipment, and disinfect all surfaces.
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and similar surfaces to help maintain a safe and sanitary setting for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Identify areas that need attention and take initiative to complete cleaning tasks without waiting to be asked.
• Carry out all work assigned by the supervisor.
• Perform floor stripping, scrubbing, buffing, refinishing, and carpet shampooing.

Candidate profile

• Prior experience in housekeeping or custodial work is considered an advantage.
• WHMIS and BSW certifications are an asset.
• Strong spoken and written English communication skills are needed.
• Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal directions.
• Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with others.
• Must be physically capable of handling the full range of job duties.
