Role overview
This position is responsible for responding to fires, gas releases, toxic exposures, rescues, and other emergency events within the assigned facility. The role focuses on saving lives, controlling hazards, and protecting company assets, while working under the direction of the squad leader. It also includes routine upkeep of firefighting, safety, and emergency resources, along with station maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, repairing, washing, and drying equipment and premises.
Rescue and lifesaving duties
- Support rescue operations during incidents, giving first priority to protecting life while limiting damage to property.
- Deliver basic first aid to injured individuals at the scene and start immediate care appropriate to the type of injury or accident.
- Keep first-aid knowledge current and help administer artificial respiration where needed for injuries linked to fire, smoke, or toxic gas exposure.
Fire suppression responsibilities
- Take part in firefighting responses across scenarios such as oil fires, toxic gas releases, property fires, and vehicle extrication.
- Apply firefighting methods to prevent, control, and extinguish fires, including ventilation, salvage work, and area checks to assess hazards and support suppression efforts.
- Join regular drills and training sessions covering fire prevention, rescue methods, and safe equipment handling.
- Inspect the scene after an incident is resolved, make sure the response is fully closed out, and reset equipment for future use.
Hazard control and emergency response
- Respond to alarms, emergency calls, detector activations, and communications to verify incidents and act accordingly.
- Carry out hazard control and evacuation measures to reduce the severity of emergency situations.
- Attend incidents involving hydrocarbon fires, aircraft incidents, casualty handling, rescue events, chemical spills, and marine emergencies.
Monitoring and operational support
- Identify and communicate unsafe practices related to chemicals, gases, and high-risk activities in operational areas such as hot work and workshops.
- Provide fire watch and hot-work standby coverage using firefighting gear, breathing apparatus, and specialist rescue tools during maintenance and project activities.
- Participate in watch duties across the assigned project, asset, or zone and report issues or observations.
Equipment care and station upkeep
- Perform basic maintenance and repainting of firefighting assets, including hoses, truck equipment, and related tools, to keep them serviceable.
- Maintain readiness of emergency response and firefighting equipment such as hoses, extinguishers, foam systems, reticulation systems, breathing apparatus, resuscitation equipment, hydrants, and isolation valves.
- Operate and replenish firefighting refill systems for powder, CO2, and nitrogen in line with safe operating procedures.
- Inspect equipment and tools, including hose testing and winding machines, to confirm proper working condition.
- Clean the fire station, check and top up stationary foam tanks, prepare equipment for drills, and lubricate hydrants and isolation valves.
Daily operational activities
- Complete physical fitness training on a daily and weekly basis to maintain the strength and health needed for duty.
- Inspect fire and safety equipment in the assigned area, including CO2, deluge, and rim systems, and report any deficiencies for corrective action.
- Monitor contractors and employees to ensure work is carried out under the permit-to-work system.
- Perform control-room responsibilities such as watching the annunciator panel, receiving alarm updates, and relaying emergency information.
- Take part in recurring fire prevention, firefighting, rescue, and safety equipment training and drills.
General duties and organizational expectations
- Follow all applicable policies, procedures, systems, standards, and functional controls to meet operational goals.
- Provide on-the-job training to support competency-based training programs for UAE nationalization.
- Help identify opportunities to improve operating methods and functional processes.
- Comply with HSE rules, legal requirements, sustainability guidance, and ADNOC codes of practice, and participate in emergency response as a team member.
- Keep the work area clean and orderly before and during operations.
- Contribute information for section progress reports and KPI checklists for management.
Working relationships
The role works closely with the squad leader, crisis management, HSE, medical and health, administration, security, maintenance, and other employees. Externally, it may involve coordination with civil defence and contractors.
Qualifications and experience
A technical diploma in a relevant discipline is preferred. Alternatively, a secondary school certificate combined with a vocational trade certificate in a relevant field is acceptable. The role requires at least 4 years of experience in firefighting, rescue work, or a technical occupation. Candidates should understand facility layouts, the location of hydrants, and the operation of pumps, ladders, rescue gear, tankers, and fire apparatus.
Professional certifications
Candidates must hold NFPA 1001 certification, a valid driving license, and a defensive driving license.
Working conditions
This role involves minimal physical effort. The work is mainly in an air-conditioned environment, although occasional site visits may expose the employee to heat, humidity, and dust.
