Role Overview
This temporary HR Assistant position focuses on resourcing work and is being offered as maternity cover for up to 12 months. The role is based at Fire Service Headquarters in Ripley within the Human Resources department and reports to the Resourcing Manager.
Pay and Working Pattern
The post is graded at D with an annual salary of GBP 30,518 full time, adjusted pro rata to GBP 15,259 per year for 18.5 hours per week. Working days are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In some situations, you may be asked to work outside normal office hours. Agile working arrangements can be discussed with the successful candidate.

Main Purpose of the Role
This is a strong opportunity for someone with recruitment, resourcing, and HR experience to contribute to a collaborative, values-led environment. The successful person will support hiring and HR activities while helping improve processes and the candidate journey.
What the Role Involves
- Supporting recruitment and resourcing activity across the HR function.
- Working with managers, colleagues, and external contacts to maintain effective relationships.
- Handling HR and recruitment systems and keeping records accurate and up to date.
- Producing reports, analysing data, and supporting GDPR-compliant practice.
- Managing a varied workload, prioritising tasks, and meeting deadlines.
- Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Looking for practical ways to improve processes and the candidate experience.
- Travelling occasionally for work, with a pool car provided when required.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Previous experience in an HR or recruitment setting.
- Hands-on experience with recruitment or HR systems and accurate data management.
- Experience supporting recruitment processes and/or HR-related tasks.
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A-C or equivalent, including English and Maths.
