About the role
Johnson & Johnson MedTech is hiring a Labs Analytical Instrument Qualification (AIQ) Technology Lead to join the Quality Control Laboratories team in Barnahely, Ringaskiddy, County Cork. The role focuses on delivering dependable, compliant laboratory systems that support business goals as well as regulatory obligations.
You will collaborate with Quality Control, IT, Engineering, Finance, and external partners to ensure laboratory instruments and systems are thoughtfully designed, secure, and prepared for long-term use. The position sits within a company that emphasizes healthcare innovation, an inclusive culture, and respect for the individuality and dignity of every employee.
What you will do
You will guide the technology side of laboratory projects from early-stage ideas through implementation, helping shape technical direction and investment choices.
You will design and support GxP-controlled laboratory systems, ensuring they satisfy data integrity, cybersecurity, and regulatory expectations. You will also work with external vendors to evaluate and implement laboratory software that offers strong technical alignment and value.
You will contribute to laboratory technology standards, priorities, lifecycle planning, and future investment decisions. In parallel, you will assist with budgeting and financial planning in coordination with Finance and Procurement.
Working across IT, Quality, Engineering, and Validation, you will help keep solutions aligned, practical, and compliant. You will also partner with infrastructure and network teams to connect instruments into the broader IT landscape and address cybersecurity requirements.
During qualification work, you will bring technical input to IOPQ execution, system configuration, and issue resolution. You will review designs, assess risk, and evaluate readiness for regulated use.
You will represent laboratory systems during audits and inspections, clearly explaining technical controls and design choices. You will also support and mentor colleagues to strengthen consistency and capability within the team.
Role requirements
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with laboratory systems or analytical instrumentation in a regulated GxP setting.
You should understand Windows workstation and server environments, along with the client-server setups commonly used in laboratories. Familiarity with networking basics such as firewalls and connectivity, plus a sound grasp of cybersecurity principles, is expected.
You should know data integrity expectations and 21 CFR Part 11, and be comfortable working within formal compliance frameworks.
Strong troubleshooting ability, clear communication, and the skill to translate technical topics into practical language for different audiences are important. You should also be comfortable working cross-functionally and building effective working relationships.
Experience handling vendors or leading technology projects is considered valuable. Familiarity with TOC, Endotoxin, UV, or SoloVPE systems would be an added advantage.
Benefits
The company offers a collaborative and inclusive environment where you can expand your technical expertise and contribute to meaningful work. You will have opportunities to work on high-impact projects, partner with experienced teams, and help influence the future of laboratory technology.
Additional benefits include an annual bonus with a target based on pay grade and location, vacation days, parental leave of at least 12 weeks, bereavement leave, caregiver leave, volunteer leave, well-being reimbursement, and programs supporting financial, physical, and mental health. Service anniversary and recognition awards are also offered, and depending on plan terms, employees and in some locations eligible dependents may access insurance plans. Benefit amounts and availability can vary by location and may change over time.
