Role Summary
The Assistant Project Manager will work alongside an assigned Project Manager to help coordinate project tasks, monitor milestones, and keep assigned projects moving forward. The role requires regular communication with the Project Manager to help ensure deadlines, deliverables, and requirements are tracked and completed effectively.
Key Duties
- Assist with project startup after award and estimate handoff, making sure the team, budget, documents, and other essentials are ready for a successful kickoff.
- Contribute to the project execution plan, critical risk path, and milestone schedule, while advising on resource allocation to support on-time completion.
- Handle project changes through formal change management steps and ensure updates are shared with the client and internal team.
- Keep project records current, including the execution plan, risk register, schedule, health and safety plan, quality plan, and any mandatory company documentation.
- Track project spending for the Project Manager and help ensure work stays within the approved budget, including alignment of man-hour forecasts.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities to support timely delivery of project needs.
- Ensure accounts receivable and accounts payable invoices are processed promptly to support project cash flow.
- Maintain project reporting for both clients and internal stakeholders, and help facilitate meetings such as kickoffs, progress updates, change order reviews, recovery planning, and lessons learned sessions.
- Support reporting related to safety, environmental, quality, and acceptance requirements on each project.
- Identify staffing needs, including specialty consultants and subcontractors, and set clear expectations for project team members.
- Assist with closeout and post-project reviews, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend actions based on findings.
- Carry out additional tasks assigned by the Project Manager to help ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or a related discipline is required.
- A PMP designation or an equivalent certification is preferred.
- At least 1 to 3 years of experience managing medium to large, full-cycle construction projects is required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities are important, along with experience leading diverse teams in fast-paced, deadline-driven settings.
- Experience with MS Project, Primavera P6, HardDollar, and ViewPoint Construction Software is preferred.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
