Head of Internal Audit

Role overview

This senior leadership position is responsible for internal audit, risk oversight, loss prevention, and compliance for retail operations across Tamil Nadu. Based at the client’s head office in Chennai, the role works closely with branch locations to strengthen controls, review financial processes, and improve the efficiency of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The selected professional will create and run a risk-focused audit structure designed for retail operations. The role involves assessing branch performance, inventory handling, and financial controls so that every location follows internal policies as well as statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Create and implement an annual internal audit plan based on risk priorities for all retail branches in Tamil Nadu.
• Review operational controls across inventory, supply chain activities, and POS transactions to spot losses and process gaps.
• Monitor compliance with SOPs across all branches in Tamil Nadu, including the head office, and strengthen loss-prevention practices.
• Prepare detailed audit findings and present practical corrective actions to senior management.
• Guide and coordinate field audit teams across different locations in Tamil Nadu to ensure audits are completed effectively.

Candidate profile

The role calls for a seasoned audit professional with strong exposure to internal audit and retail operations. The company is looking for someone who understands retail business practices in Tamil Nadu, has strong analytical and reporting ability, and is comfortable travelling frequently across the state.

Qualification and experience

• M.Com, CA Inter, or ICWA Inter.
• 15 to 29 years of progressive experience in internal auditing and retail management.
• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.
• Strong understanding of retail operations, consumer behavior, and commercial compliance in Tamil Nadu.
• Ability to work with retail ERP systems and produce clear, high-quality reports.
