Maintenance Utility Worker

Job Summary

This role sits within operations and focuses on keeping delivery and yard equipment in safe, ready-to-use condition. The work centers on basic equipment checks such as oil, other fluids, tire pressure, and fueling.

Key Responsibilities

• Refuel all delivery equipment each day.
• Inspect fluid levels in power equipment on a daily basis.
• Provide support to the fleet shop as required.
• Coordinate with fleet shop and night warehouse leadership to prepare equipment for service.
• Wash trailers according to the FSQA schedule.
• Maintain a clean parking area and remove debris.
• Help night truck spotters keep the truck yard organized.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required, although an equivalent mix of schooling and experience may also be considered. The preferred background includes 1 to 3 months of related experience and/or training.

Professional Skills

Candidates should be comfortable understanding short written instructions, memos, and simple correspondence, as well as drafting basic written communication. The role also calls for the ability to communicate clearly in small groups or one-to-one settings, handle basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and follow directions provided in written, verbal, or diagram form. Problem-solving in routine, standardized situations is expected, along with the ability to learn how to operate and back up tractor-trailers and straight trucks.

Physical Requirements

This position involves active, hands-on work. Employees must regularly stand, walk, use their hands for handling and feeling, reach with their arms, and communicate by speaking or hearing. Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling may be required, while sitting is only occasional. The role also requires lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Vision demands include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, plus the ability to adjust focus.
