Passenger Assistant

About the role

Dorset Travel manages transport arrangements for children and young people with additional needs across Dorset, including journeys outside the county. The wider team also supports transport requirements for mainstream travel, child care, and adults.

This position is for a regular Passenger Assistant based in the Shaftesbury area. The post is term-time only and averages about 10 hours per week, with pay starting at £13.05 per hour.

What you will do

You will help children and young people with additional needs travel safely between home and school, making sure the journey remains secure and supportive throughout.

The assignment supports a young person or young people travelling to and from EMA Gillingham and includes an additional medical training requirement.

You must be available in both the morning and afternoon to match school start and finish times.

The ideal candidate will be considerate, adaptable, and dependable, with an understanding of the needs of passengers requiring extra support.

• Awareness of moderate and complex learning needs.
• Understanding of child safeguarding and how to apply it.
• Ability to identify hazards and report them appropriately.
• Strong customer care approach.

Physical requirements

This role is physically active and requires the ability to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry, and kneel in order to provide the necessary support.
