Senior Full Stack Developer - Node.js and React

Role overview

CGI is expanding its Atlantic Canada delivery capabilities and is looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer to support modern web application work. This is a permanent, full-time position with a hybrid schedule that requires onsite presence for 2–3 days each week. You may work from Halifax, Nova Scotia; Moncton, New Brunswick; Fredericton, New Brunswick; Stratford, Prince Edward Island; or St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The role focuses on building, improving, and maintaining scalable web solutions across both backend and frontend layers. You will partner with cross-functional teams and apply your hands-on experience in Node.js, React, relational databases, APIs, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices to deliver secure and reliable products.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, refine, and support backend services in Node.js.
• Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs with Apollo Server.
• Work primarily with PostgreSQL while supporting the transition away from MySQL.
• Apply Redis-based caching approaches to improve application performance.
• Build and run AWS-based solutions using Lambda, ECS, SQS, and RDS.
• Assist with CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions and resolve pipeline problems.
• Connect backend services with React-based frontends.
• Take part in Agile activities such as sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
• Use DevOps practices to create and manage Docker images, containers, and orchestration setups.

Required experience and qualifications

• More than 10 years of overall software development experience.
• At least 6 years of backend development experience with Node.js.
• At least 6 years of experience using relational databases, with PostgreSQL as the preferred platform.
• Strong knowledge of REST, GraphQL, and event-driven system design.
• At least 5 years of experience building and scaling applications on AWS.
• At least 4 years of experience working with caching technologies, especially Redis.
• Experience in Agile and continuous delivery environments.
• Strong command of Git and GitHub-based workflows.
• Solid experience working with Kafka.
• Nice to have: experience with Docker container management.
• Nice to have: exposure to container orchestration tools such as AWS ECS or Kubernetes.
• Nice to have: experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Compensation and employment details

This is a regular, permanent full-time role. The stated salary range is CAD 65,000 to CAD 125,000 per year.
