The opportunity

The engineering function powers the systems behind a global virtual school. That includes the student and parent platform (CGA Home), internal sales and marketing tooling, school operations systems, and the public-facing website.

Engineers work very close to the product, the people who use it, and the outcomes it creates. This senior role is suited to someone who cares deeply about the impact of strong software on education and wants to improve both the products delivered and the way the team delivers them.

In this position, you will operate at a senior level across backend and infrastructure work, contribute to architecture choices, and help guide the team’s technical direction and engineering culture.

What you will do

• Design and deliver CGA’s products across cloud, backend, infrastructure, and frontend areas when required.
• Own complex technical challenges from the initial problem framing all the way through release, monitoring, and ongoing improvements.
• Use test-driven development practices so completed work remains stable and does not regress.
• Take part in architectural decisions and help influence the technical roadmap.
• Work closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders by providing realistic estimates, communicating transparently, and delivering on agreed timelines.
• Improve CI/CD, testing, and deployment workflows so the team can release more quickly and with greater safety.
• Track product performance and step in when issues need attention.
• Support and mentor teammates, raise overall quality, and set a strong example for team standards.

Essential requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Strong end-to-end product instincts, with substantial senior-level experience in backend and infrastructure work.
• Working knowledge of the core stack, or something very close to it: HTML5/CSS, React, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, Docker, AWS, and Terraform.
• A history of shipping software that you and your team can stand behind, particularly within a disciplined CI/CD environment.
• Confident, honest communication and a collaborative mindset, with a habit of supporting teammates and following through on commitments.
• Interest in developing into a technical leadership role over time.

Preferred experience

• Experience building education products or other consumer products used by a global audience.
• Background in mentoring or coaching less experienced engineers.
• Comfort operating production systems across multiple regions and time zones.
