This remote contract opportunity is for an Applied Sciences Document Specialist focused on creating and evaluating benchmark tasks built around scientific materials. The work centers on physics, chemistry, and biology content, with an emphasis on visual document understanding, instruction-following, and measurable evaluation design.
What you will do
- Design benchmark-style tasks using scientific documents and materials from physics, chemistry, and biology.
- Assess how well models handle visual document comprehension and follow instructions accurately.
- Build realistic scientific scenarios that produce clear, objective outcomes and can be measured consistently.
- Prepare accurate ground-truth answers and scoring rubrics that support reliable evaluation.
- Review model outputs for scientific correctness and adherence to the task directions.
- Interpret complex diagrams, charts, research documents, and technical files across the core science domains.
- Convert scientific ideas into structured assessment criteria and evaluation frameworks.
- Work on your own while keeping quality standards and deadlines intact.
Requirements
- Ability to create strong tasks from scientific reports, research references, diagrams, charts, and technical documentation.
- Skill in defining precise reference answers and objective evaluation rules.
- Capability to judge responses for scientific accuracy and compliance with instructions.
- Comfort working across physics, chemistry, and biology materials, including visual and technical content.
- High attention to detail and the ability to produce clean, well-organized deliverables.
- Strength in turning scientific concepts into structured assessment criteria.

Additional information
This position is fully remote and offered as an independent contractor role. Scheduling is flexible, with an expected workload of 15 to 20 hours per week. Compensation is $50 per hour. There is potential for the assignment to be extended depending on performance and ongoing project needs.
