Role Overview
This position is for a Backend Software Engineer on the Client Platform Team. The team is distributed across Europe and the US and brings together engineers, product managers, and UX designers to build web-based tools that help clients make better decisions from data.
The team values autonomy and encourages engineers to make decisions independently, with the goal of improving ownership, motivation, innovation, and productivity.
Technology Environment
The engineering setup is microservices-based and DevOps-oriented, with teams owning both production code and infrastructure. The team places a strong emphasis on type-safe, functional programming approaches and values clean, composable code. Common technologies across the company include Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
Responsibilities
- Contribute in an Agile, distributed, cross-functional team to deliver a customer-facing platform that improves access to data-driven insights.
- Take part in technical architecture and design conversations.
- Create reliable, scalable services, high-performance APIs, and supporting infrastructure for the client web platform.
- Refine system design to improve speed and scalability.
- Build strong working relationships across functions to deliver meaningful outcomes.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience as a Backend Engineer in a comparable setting.
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript, along with an appreciation for type safety and functional programming concepts.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across teams and sharing knowledge effectively.
- Practical experience developing REST services.
- Solid understanding of SQL.
- Experience using a cloud platform such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to or interest in functional programming languages such as Scala.
- Experience creating GraphQL services.
- Familiarity with TypeScript functional libraries and patterns such as fp-ts or Effect.
- Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working on data pipelines.
- Some knowledge of infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Some frontend experience with Vue or React.
