Role overview
The Estimator position is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and focuses on developing precise construction cost estimates. The work centers on industrial, marine, and civil engineering projects, with an emphasis on producing competitive bids through thorough scope analysis, quantity take-offs, and coordination with internal project teams.
What you'll do
- Build detailed cost estimates for a range of construction assignments.
- Study drawings, plans, and specifications to understand project needs.
- Perform quantity take-offs and apply pricing to civil construction items.
- Work closely with project managers and engineers to clarify scope and technical details.
- Use estimating platforms such as HCSS and HeavyBid to support workflow efficiency.
- Compare subcontractor and supplier pricing to identify the most favorable options.
- Keep historical cost records organized for use in future pricing exercises.
- Assist with bid assembly and submission activities.
Required background
- At least 5 years of experience in civil estimating, ideally across industrial, marine, commercial, or municipal work.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience estimating heavy civil projects, especially industrial and marine jobs.
- Working knowledge of HCSS, HeavyBid, and similar estimating systems.
- Solid understanding of earthwork, grading, and utility-related civil construction tasks.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary for this role is $100,000 to $140,000 per year. Benefits include medical, vision, dental, a 401(k) plan, bonus opportunities, and additional perks.
