Role Overview
An established commercial general contractor and construction manager in North York is seeking an intermediate Estimator to strengthen its estimating function. In this role, you will partner with the estimating team to develop precise, competitive tenders for commercial interior renovation projects.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and submission of competitive bids, including all activities required before tendering.
- Source and compare pricing from subcontractors to support accurate estimates.
- Handle subcontractor buyout negotiations and finalize trade pricing.
- Create thorough, precise bids for commercial tender opportunities.
- Build budgets that are accurate and help protect project profitability.
- Work with clients to develop conceptual budgets from early sketches while providing pricing guidance in a consulting capacity.
- Assess drawings and specifications, then recommend alternative materials or methods that may reduce project costs.
- Coordinate with the operations team to develop preliminary project schedules.
- Deliver strong client service and added value to encourage repeat work.
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in a construction-focused program, or equivalent hands-on experience, is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in commercial construction is expected.
- You should be comfortable using MS Office and a range of estimating software tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication, along with excellent organizational ability, is important.
- Applicants must understand major building systems and be able to read and interpret construction drawings across multiple disciplines.
