Project Engineer

Role overview

ConsultANZ is recruiting a Project Engineer for a civil engineering firm based in Wellington, New Zealand. The position focuses on coordinating site delivery, supporting project controls, and helping ensure civil works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day site operations so that work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Handle core project paperwork such as ITPs, RFIs, NCRs, QA documentation, and construction method statements.
• Contribute to planning, scheduling, procurement activities, and subcontractor coordination.
• Track project expenditure, output levels, and use of labour, equipment, and materials.
• Work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and on-site teams to keep delivery aligned.
• Maintain adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Assist Project Managers with reporting, forecasting, and broader commercial tasks.
• Help coordinate survey, design, and construction workflows.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
• You should have at least 6 years of experience in civil construction in a Site Engineer or Project Engineer role.
• Prior exposure to marine, port, bridge, structural, earthworks, ground improvement, or heavy civil infrastructure projects is needed.
• Strong knowledge of QA procedures, ITPs, and construction documentation is expected.
• You must have solid communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience working in a demanding, fast-moving project setting is important.
