Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Caretaker/Janitor to join our team at the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. This position primarily involves comprehensive cleaning duties across the entire secure facility, including both planned and reactive cleaning tasks. The role requires availability for out-of-hours work, covering holidays, sickness at other locations, and working weekends and public holidays. Candidates must be eligible for police vetting, requiring a minimum of three years' residency in the UK. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle are preferred, as traveling to alternate sites may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver complete cleaning services including routine, reactive, and specialized cleaning within the secure site.
Undertake monthly cleaning of internal and external windows and frames.
Perform groundskeeping duties such as planting, grass cutting, and weeding.
Collect and dispose of waste to designated points on the premises.
Manage stock levels of consumables and equipment, including toilet paper, copier paper, and detainee materials.
Train colleagues in essential caretaking functions and guide staff as required.

Candidate Requirements

Demonstrated experience in maintenance or cleaning roles.
Previous work experience within a secure facility environment.
Fundamental skills in ICT, electrical, and mechanical areas.
Possession of a current clean driving license.
Flexibility in working hours.
Must have lived in the UK for at least three years to complete police vetting.
