Role Overview

The company is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the Accounting function and collaborate closely with HR and IT teams. This role involves working directly with the CEO and Executive Team to improve reporting, controls, and scalable processes across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with all members of the executive team to support financial reporting, planning, and business decision-making.
• Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, delivering accurate and timely financial statements.
• Prepare monthly reporting packages including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and variance analyses.
• Produce monthly reporting packages required by the bank.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and daily accounting operations.
• Coordinate bi-monthly payroll processing and ensure accurate reconciliations and internal controls in partnership with HR.
• Generate monthly commission reports, schedules, and related documentation.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
• Enhance internal controls, policies, and maintain proper documentation; coordinate audit and tax support activities.
• Prepare year-end review schedules and act as the primary liaison for external accountants.
• Manage accounting and reporting for Quarterback Transportation’s Canadian and U.S. entities as well as multiple holding companies.
• Lead and develop a team comprising 7 direct reports.
• Partner with HR and leadership to develop, review, and administer compensation plans including commission structures and associated documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA certification preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 5 to 10-plus years of progressive experience in accounting and finance; prior Controller experience is advantageous.
• Strong expertise in closing processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience with multi-entity organizational structures spanning Canada, the U.S., and holding companies is highly valued.
• Proficiency in payroll processing, commission reporting, and compensation plan administration preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is strongly preferred.
• Experience in freight brokerage is considered an asset.
• Advanced Excel abilities and comfort with enhancing reports and processes within ERP or accounting systems.
• Excellent communication skills with a collaborative leadership approach.
