Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Driver & Fleet Staff Manager will be responsible for leading and supervising the fleet workforce, including drivers, cleaners, and helpers across multiple locations. Key duties involve managing recruitment, training, discipline, and operational support to ensure optimum workforce productivity and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and mentor drivers, cleaners, and support staff within the transport department.
- Strategize rosters, shifts, attendance, and leave planning to maintain adequate staffing levels.
- Lead recruitment processes including interviews, onboarding, and induction of fleet personnel.
- Verify legal documents like licenses, conduct background verification, and ensure adherence to statutory requirements.
- Monitor driver performance metrics such as trip completion rates, idle times, overtime, and overall utilization.
- Utilize GPS technology to track vehicle movements and investigate route deviations, delays, unauthorized stops, or speeding incidents.
- Provide coaching, counseling, and conduct performance appraisals for drivers.
- Implement company policies related to discipline and safety standards for driving.
- Organize and conduct regular safety training, toolbox meetings, and refresher sessions.
- Manage accident investigations and drive corrective measures.
- Maintain comprehensive employee records, including licenses, medical certifications, training logs, and disciplinary files.
- Collaborate closely with multiple internal teams including Operations, Dispatch, Workshop, HR, Finance, Security, and external bodies like RTO and insurance agencies.
- Generate and present timely MIS reports covering areas such as driver availability, productivity, attendance, recruitment, GPS exceptions, safety metrics, and workforce performance.
Candidate Profile
- Graduation degree is preferred.
- 7 to 10 years of experience managing transport operations, logistics teams, or sizable driver groups.
- Expertise in leading and developing driver and fleet support teams.
- Solid knowledge of GPS fleet tracking systems and transport regulations.
- Familiarity with recruitment, manpower planning, attendance monitoring, and employee discipline.
- Strong leadership qualities with excellent communication and people management capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data/reporting tools.
