About the Role
The General Foreman reports directly to the Contracts Manager and collaborates closely with the Quantity Surveyor to oversee the onsite project schedule, quality of workmanship, and safety standards. This role ensures the availability of adequate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor support in adherence to contract requirements and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and track key project stage timelines.
- Organize and maintain site setup and security, including site hutting, hoardings, and signage to uphold a professional appearance.
- Take control of site operations and coordinate trade activities effectively.
- Apply for necessary temporary service connections.
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications and clearly communicate instructions to site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Ensure proper completion of method statements and risk assessments for high-risk tasks.
- Request missing information from the project’s professional team and clarify verbal instructions in writing.
- Help secure all required project approvals (e.g., hoarding licence) to prevent delays and risks.
- Assess construction feasibility and identify methods that offer commercial or scheduling advantages.
- Collaborate with the Environmental Coordinator to apply environmental controls aligned with the HSE plan.
- Participate in site, subcontractor, and internal meetings while documenting and sharing minutes and action items.
- Communicate clearly and adapt style to different audiences including colleagues, clients, and third parties.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in construction management within a national or regional contracting company.
- Strong analytical capabilities paired with exceptional organizational and time management skills for proactive planning.
- Valid First Aid at Work certification.
- IOSH or equivalent health & safety management qualification.
- Training or knowledge in Temporary Works & Excavation Safety.
- Understanding of permitting requirements related to live energy activities, in alignment with site and safety management protocols.
- Experience with Working at Heights and Scaffolding safety procedures.
- Knowledge of Lifting and Cranage operations.
- Additional Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality System training as outlined in site HSE plans.
