Head of Machine Learning Research & Intelligence

Position Overview

We are seeking a Head of Machine Learning Research & Intelligence to lead an innovative AI platform designed to automate complex digital workflows. This strategic and hands-on leadership role is based in Ireland and involves driving the vision for intelligent machine learning systems used at scale. Collaborating closely with product and engineering teams, you will set high standards of research quality, system reliability, and technical excellence while steering the evolution and capabilities of cutting-edge AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement research strategies focused on core AI elements including reasoning, planning, memory, context representation, and orchestration.
• Make pivotal architectural decisions regarding model development, including choosing between proprietary creations and state-of-the-art open-source or commercial models.
• Create and maintain evaluation frameworks to assess quality, safety, dependability, long-term performance, and real-world impact of AI systems.
• Lead AI alignment, safety protocols, and guardrails to guarantee responsible and trustworthy system behavior.
• Utilize and integrate advanced machine learning methodologies such as retrieval-augmented training, mixture-of-experts, model distillation, multimodal AI, and multi-agent systems.
• Work collaboratively across teams to translate research innovations into scalable product features.
• Maintain high standards of technical excellence, rigorous research, and sound engineering judgment throughout machine learning projects.

Required Qualifications

• Proven expertise in designing, developing, and deploying machine learning systems in production environments.
• Strong skills in evaluating model performance, diagnosing failure modes, and making architectural decisions with enduring influence.
• Hands-on experience with Python, PyTorch and/or JAX in GPU-accelerated training and inference contexts.
• Capability to balance pioneering research with pragmatic product development to achieve real-world system reliability and performance.
• Experience with advanced AI technologies such as large language models, retrieval systems, orchestration platforms, or multimodal architectures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities and confident decision-making in dynamic settings.
• High degree of ownership, self-direction, and a results-oriented entrepreneurial approach.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with research, engineering, and product teams.
