Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for a seasoned HSE Officer to become part of our Construction Supervision team based in Abu Dhabi. This position's main objective is to guarantee adherence to project-specific HSE protocols, relevant UAE regulations, and international safety norms by conducting regular site reviews, overseeing contractor compliance, and implementing proactive risk management strategies. The incumbent will play a key role in fostering a robust safety mindset and supporting the secure execution of construction activities.
Key Duties
- Enforce and monitor compliance with project HSE policies, Abu Dhabi legal safety requirements, and accepted international safety standards.
- Perform daily inspections on-site to detect unsafe behaviors, hazardous conditions, and environmental issues.
- Verify contractors' adherence to sanctioned HSE plans, risk evaluations, method statements, and permit-to-work systems.
- Examine safety plans for lifting, excavation, confined spaces, working at heights, and other high-risk tasks before commencement.
- Issue safety observations, non-conformance reports, and safety notices, following up to ensure timely corrective measures.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and dangerous events, compiling comprehensive reports including root cause analysis and recommendations for prevention.
- Organize and conduct HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and awareness sessions for all site workers.
- Ensure proper use and compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all work locations.
- Engage in emergency preparedness activities such as fire drills, evacuation procedures, and incident response planning.
- Keep detailed and accurate records of HSE inspections, reports, statistics, and documentation required by clients and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate effectively with Clients, Resident Engineers, Contractors, and authorities on all HSE-related issues.
- Participate in project progress, coordination, and HSE meetings, providing updates on safety performance.
- Advocate for continual advancement and a proactive safety culture within the project environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Must possess the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC).
- Possession of IOSH Managing Safely or an equivalent safety certification is advantageous.
- Valid certifications in First Aid and Fire Safety are considered a plus.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in Health, Safety & Environmental roles within the construction sector.
- Experience working on building or infrastructure projects within the UAE is essential.
- Background working with Supervision Consultants is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Abu Dhabi HSE laws, OSHAD standards, and international health and safety regulations.
