Junior Software Engineer

About the Role

Join Scotiabank's dynamic and results-driven team in Toronto, focused on innovative payment technologies. We are seeking a Junior Full Stack Developer passionate about full lifecycle software development, eager to grow, and ready to collaborate in building modern banking applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain responsive web applications primarily using ReactJS.
• Create and support backend APIs and services with Node.js.
• Collaborate with teams working on Java-based banking-as-a-service integrations.
• Engage in code reviews, testing, debugging, and deployment processes.
• Work closely alongside product owners, UI/UX designers, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Participate actively in technical discussions and drive continuous improvement.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code adhering to best engineering practices.
• Support Agile workflows including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Proactively troubleshoot and enhance technical skills within a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

• Between 1 to 3 years of professional or internship experience in software development.
• Strong grasp of JavaScript and modern web development principles.
• Experience building applications with ReactJS.
• Know-how in backend development using Node.js.
• Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and client-server models.
• Familiarity with Git version control systems.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Quick learner adaptable to evolving workflows.
• Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to contribute to team dynamics.

Desirable Competencies

• Knowledge of Single-SPA or Micro Frontend architectures.
• Experience with Redux state management.
• Familiarity with Java programming.
• Exposure to tools such as Confluence, Figma, Bitbucket, Jira.
• Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
