Role Overview
The Materials Manager at Stio® will oversee sourcing, development, testing, coloring, and commercialization of fabrics and trims that align with the design, performance, cost, and quality standards of Stio's product range. This role manages seasonal material timelines, material planning, vendor relations, and maintaining detailed collateral to support product development. The manager works closely with Design, Development, and PLM teams to ensure materials strategy supports go-to-market goals while advancing Stio's sustainability targets, aiming for at least 75% preferred material usage. Reporting to the Sourcing & Production Director, the position also interfaces with Production and requires domestic and international travel up to 20% annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain a comprehensive library of high-quality performance materials and trims consistent with brand and product differentiation.
- Source seasonal and ongoing fabrics and trims meeting design, technical, and cost criteria; manage print development workflows including coordination of greige fabric commitments, strike-offs, and lab dip approvals.
- Collaborate with mills and suppliers to innovate and develop new materials and constructions; manage supplier relationships including forecasting, costing, and timeline adherence.
- Lead the seasonal materials timeline from fabric selection to production readiness, ensuring BOM accuracy, coordinating prototype yardage, and updating Product Development Documents.
- Maintain accurate material records within Centric PLM to support product information management and wholesale/DTC channels; perform seasonal audits and correct data gaps.
- Manage material costing, staging, sample yardage shipments, and compile mill liabilities.
- Validate material test certifications, maintain Transaction Certificates, and support preferred material certification audits in line with sustainability initiatives.
- Review woven material data for wholesale workbook seasonal accuracy.
- Participate in Production Operations Development processes including BOM checks, labeling decisions, and production milestones.
- Educate cross-functional teams about material features and seasonal stories during key meetings.
- Support auxiliary product lines and maintain connection to full seasonal offerings.
- Adhere to the annual Product Development budget while contributing toward revenue, margin, and EBITDA goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or progress toward one in Textile Science, Apparel Design, Product Development, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in materials development and testing within apparel or closely related industries.
- Strong technical knowledge of fabric performance attributes across woven, knit, down, and synthetic insulation materials.
- Demonstrated success in material commercialization and delivering on schedule.
- Experience using PLM systems (preferably Centric) and maintaining data integrity standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions in product development.
