Position Overview
We are seeking a Molecular Technologist to join our team at the Rathcoole site in Dublin (D24 NF21). The primary responsibility is to process customer samples in our microbiology laboratory using advanced technology platforms such as bacterial 16S rDNA sequencing, fungal ITS2 sequencing, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and Good Manufacturing Practices is essential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Process customer samples precisely following current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Receive, unpack, log, and culture samples per SOP guidelines.
- Prepare and aliquot reagents with accuracy.
- Perform isolation streaks, PCR, sequencing, mass spectrometry, and ribotyping on samples.
- Maintain, repair, and clean laboratory instruments regularly.
- Conduct pipette verification to ensure measurement accuracy.
- Provide backup support for all lab operations as needed.
- Dispose of microbial cultures, chemicals, and glass waste correctly.
- Work collaboratively with technical support to resolve sample discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, including safety manuals, SOPs, and MSDS.
- Recommend improvements for laboratory processes.
- Assist or lead special laboratory projects when required.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline.
- Up to three years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
- An acceptable combination of education and experience may substitute formal qualifications.
- Familiarity with Quality Systems and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
