About the Role
Wyndham City Council is looking for a committed Open Space Maintenance Team Member based in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria. This permanent full-time position, working 38 hours weekly, entails maintaining the municipality’s trees, gardens, parks, sporting fields, plantations, drains, and road reserves to a high standard while minimizing disruption to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various small to medium garden maintenance equipment such as rotary hoes, mowers, brush cutters, and pruners.
- Maintain and care for plant tools and machinery, checking fuel, lubricants, and fluid levels regularly.
- Control weeds using manual methods and approved chemicals.
- Report or act upon maintenance issues encountered during work.
- Adhere to safety protocols by using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Valid motor vehicle driver's licence.
- Truck licence up to 13.9 tonnes is desirable.
- Roadside safety training is advantageous.
- Chemical Users Certificate is a plus.
- Skills in identifying various weeds and plants.
- General experience in garden upkeep and maintenance.
- Proficiency operating small and medium plant equipment.
- Experience in customer service and working with the public.
- Possession of a current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain is preferred.

Terms and Conditions
The salary aligns with Band 2, starting from $73,668.75 per year plus superannuation and includes a fortnightly Rostered Day Off (RDO).
Employees accepting permanent or temporary roles of 12 months or longer must relinquish any casual positions within the Council, and cannot be absent from substantive positions beyond 24 months.
