Role Overview
The Planning Engineer will create, track, and revise project programs to help ensure interior design and fit-out assignments are delivered on schedule. This position brings together design, procurement, and site execution into a single coordinated timeline, with a focus on spotting risks early and recommending actions that reduce the chance of delay.
Expected Outcome
The role is expected to produce reliable project schedules, identify risks ahead of time, and support on-time delivery in accordance with contractual commitments, revenue milestones, and client requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed baseline programmes for projects using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Blend design, procurement, subcontractor, and site activities into one integrated schedule.
- Determine the critical path, available float, and task dependencies.
- Compare actual progress with the baseline and refresh the programme as work advances.
- Develop weekly and monthly status reports, including clear variance explanations.
- Review schedule slippages and recommend recovery actions when required.
- Coordinate with design, procurement, and site teams to keep deliverables aligned.
- Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to confirm updated timelines and commitments.
- Share regular progress updates with the Project Manager and CEO.
- Run scenario-based “what-if” analysis to anticipate potential delays.
- Draft extension of time claims and assemble the supporting records when needed.
- Record and implement mitigation actions to control schedule risks.
- Keep project schedules current and compliant with contractual obligations.
- Follow company SOPs, client agreements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Assist with close-out reports and lessons-learned documentation at project completion.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management and bring at least 5 years of planning experience within the UAE, preferably on interior design, fit-out, or construction projects. Strong command of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project is important, along with a solid grasp of scheduling, delay analysis, and EOT preparation. Good communication, coordination, and reporting ability are essential, as is an understanding of how revenue milestones connect to project cash flow.
Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable working to tight deadlines.
- Effective stakeholder management.
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-moving project environment.
