Job Overview
The Safety Engineer will oversee environmental and safety operations throughout the construction phase of our project. Responsibilities include conducting environmental impact assessments, managing waste and pollution control systems, coordinating ISO certification processes, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage environmental operations related to plant operation and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permits.
- Review local Saudi Arabian (KSA) and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) regulations concerning environmental assessments.
- Collaborate effectively with local consultants and government bodies such as the National Centre for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) to acquire necessary permits.
- Oversee environmental compliance during equipment installation and commissioning phases.
- Supervise waste management for non-hazardous, hazardous, and recyclable materials in automotive manufacturing.
- Manage third-party waste contractors including their selection, contract negotiation, and performance monitoring.
- Conduct internal audits and provide training to ensure proper waste handling procedures.
- Operate and monitor air pollution control equipment, notably the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) system in the paint shop.
- Maintain system performance, emissions monitoring, and ensure adherence to air quality standards.
- Monitor influent and effluent water quality, control chemical dosing, coordinate laboratory testing, and submit reports to relevant water authorities.
- Develop and implement safety training programs for both employees and contractors.
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain necessary safety documentation.
- Provide subcontractors with safety guidelines and supervise their compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) certification and audit initiatives for the new factory.
- Ensure compliance with KAEC environmental and safety regulations.
- Conduct internal audits and coordinate with external auditors, also delivering ISO-related training to various departments.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess 2 to 5 years of experience in construction, preferably with exposure to paint shop environments.
- Experience in managing RTO systems, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), waste handling, and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Demonstrate strong initiative with a proactive and positive attitude.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory; Arabic language skills are preferred.
