Shift Engineer

Overview

The Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth production activities of the plant during shifts by leading the shift crew and assisting the shift superintendent. The goal is to meet production targets while upholding safety and quality standards.

Main Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and executing the daily shift operation plans following function standards and regulations.
• Implement new projects and initiatives as per policies to support future shift operation needs.
• Contribute suggestions to enhance site processes and specifications aligning with industry best practices.
• Monitor equipment using predictive maintenance tools like OMPro for optimized site performance.
• Conduct routine inspections to detect and address equipment issues; coordinate maintenance for safe handover/takeover of equipment.
• Manage safe and efficient shutdown and startup of operations, preserving equipment during prolonged shutdowns.
• Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks to minimize emergency shutdowns and ensure safety.
• Investigate root causes of failures and recommend troubleshooting and preventive measures.
• Support Process Improvement Orders (PIOs) and participate in trials to maintain seamless shift operations.
• Maintain detailed shift logs of operational activities consistently.
• Assist Plant Operator during incidents or operational upsets.
• Demonstrate knowledge of rotary machine seal systems, compressor lubrication systems including related parameters like temperature, pressure, flow, and valve statuses.
• Understand field instrument locations and effectively communicate with other plants to manage raw material stock levels.
• Coordinate with maintenance for planning and executing jobs, distinguishing between regular, one-time, and shutdown jobs.
• Conduct risk assessments during handover/takeover and prior to jobs, leading toolbox talks to reinforce safety.
• Supervise adherence to safety processes to provide a safe workplace and prevent accidents.
• Perform root cause analysis and report near misses to prevent incident recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with work permit systems and relevant safety regulations during operations.
• Familiarity with incident classification systems such as API754 and ensuring proper reporting.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum qualification: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Technology.
• Experience: 3 to 7 years as a shift engineer in site operations, including at least 2 years as a panel executive.

• Achievement of production targets and quality control measures.
• Plant technical availability and conversion cost monitoring.
