Social Care Worker

Overview

Horizons Cork is seeking qualified and experienced Social Care Workers to join on both full-time and part-time bases to assist individuals living in community residences. The goal is to empower these individuals to thrive and lead their lives according to personal preferences and choices.

Role and Responsibilities

The selected candidates will provide person-centered support for those living independently in their homes, aiding daily living activities while fostering connections with the local community. A commitment to a social model of support centered on the individual is crucial. Supporting the development of meaningful social roles is a key focus. Horizons emphasizes modern leadership methods, teamwork, positive risk-taking, empowerment, and enablement to ensure effective service delivery.

Salary and Terms

The position offers a salary based on a 12-point scale effective as of 1st June 2026. Starting salary for new hires will be at the minimum scale point (€41,260), with incremental increases possible for certain prior relevant experience recognized under Department of Health guidelines. The salary progression points are as follows: €41,260, €42,832, €44,769, €46,186, €47,618, €49,058, €50,520, €52,015, €53,528, €55,098, €56,717, €57,789.

Essential Qualifications & Professional Registration

• A minimum of Level 7 on the Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) framework, such as a Diploma or Ordinary Bachelor's Degree in Social Care Practice, or an equivalent qualification acknowledged by CORU's Social Care Workers Registration Board.
• Applicants must either hold or be eligible for professional registration with CORU's Social Care Workers register. Evidence of application must be provided if registration is pending.
• Employment contracts will only be issued once CORU registration is confirmed.

Required Experience & Skills

• At least 12 months' experience working within a healthcare environment.
• Understanding of theory and practice related to individualised support for people in home settings.
• Familiarity with therapeutic approaches relevant to service users' needs.
• Knowledge of policies, legislation, and professional standards ensuring quality service delivery.
• Experience or capability in report writing and organizational tasks.
• Working knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Full clean driving license is desirable.
• Capacity to manage workload effectively, show flexibility, and resolve conflicts.
• Competence in making timely decisions and willingness to develop relevant IT skills.
• Familiarity with Person-Centred Planning and teamwork dynamics.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have valid work authorization and be legally eligible to live and work in Ireland.

Additional Information

A panel may be established from this recruitment to fill vacancies over the subsequent 12 months. Annual registration with CORU is mandatory and must be maintained.
