Role Overview

As a Test Automation Engineer working onsite at our Fortitude Valley office in Brisbane, you will be pivotal in building and supporting automated testing for both SaaS products and custom software. Reporting to the CTO and collaborating closely with developers, product owners, and the QA team, your efforts will ensure we confidently release across multiple codebases through clean, well-tested automation.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and sustain automated test suites covering unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for front-end and back-end codebases, focusing on critical workflows to prevent regressions and enable confident releases.
Establish, document, and promote testing standards, patterns, and conventions that define effective coverage and embed these practices into daily development activities.
Mentor and enhance the QA team's skills in automation and software development via training sessions, pairing, and code reviews to boost their test writing capabilities.
Build and maintain tests using technologies such as TypeScript, React, Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, PHP, Laravel, PHPUnit, and Docker; integrate these into CI/CD pipelines (Buddy and GitHub) ensuring tests run reliably with each change.
Maintain fast, stable, and reliable test suites to foster trust in test outcomes and encourage their full adoption by the development team.
Communicate testing standards, coverage status, gaps, and quality concerns through tools like Jira and Confluence to relevant stakeholders including developers, product owners, and the CTO.
Contribute to ongoing improvement of Antero’s quality engineering methodologies and stay informed on innovations in test automation to continually enhance team practices.
In addition, partake in performance and load testing to assess platform scalability and responsiveness, analyze findings, and recommend enhancements.
Explore and incorporate AI-based tools (e.g., Claude) to facilitate test writing, review, and process acceleration.

Qualifications and Evaluation Criteria

A solid software development background capable of designing and maintaining automated tests across modern web technologies.
Proficiency in TypeScript/React and PHP/Laravel frameworks, as well as experience with developer tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Ability to articulate and justify test coverage decisions and trade-offs when reviewing or writing automated tests.
Experience in defining and communicating testing standards and leading teams through adoption and upskilling efforts.
