Overview
The Typhoon Mechanical Operator will function under the supervision of the Mechanicals Junior Supervisor, performing detailed maintenance tasks on Typhoon aircraft mechanical systems. Candidates must bring proven experience in Typhoon maintenance, possess understanding of approved maintenance protocols, and demonstrate competence in executing maintenance instructions according to organizational regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough maintenance and inspections on Typhoon mechanical systems, ensuring all work aligns with the work package and authorized technical information.
- Execute various maintenance duties on mechanical components, including removal, inspection, repair, modification, fault resolution, replacement, and system testing.
- Adopt a flexible, proactive approach to responsibilities and adhere to managerial direction.
- Maintain personal authorization for handling components following Qatar Air Force (QAF) standards.
- Provide progress updates relative to delivery targets to supervisors.
- Support tasks within the Base Maintenance Facility to maintain procedural compliance, including oversight checks and managing tools and test equipment.
- Evaluate faults and generate ad hoc work orders for unforeseen issues detected during maintenance.
- Document all maintenance activities accurately, maintain airworthiness records on IT and paper-based systems, prepare necessary reports, identify concerns, and escalate them properly.
- Maintain a personal Log Book documenting skill currency and training, and appropriately sign off colleagues’ logbooks within trade and skill limits.
Performance Expectations
- Demonstrate leadership by ensuring maintenance tasks meet target delivery benchmarks and airworthiness standards, monitoring progress, and escalating issues.
- Follow all regulatory and company procedures and standards, identifying and suggesting improvements where applicable.
- Apply human factors and error management principles to all maintenance work, understanding and mitigating associated risks.
- Ensure maintenance compliance with continuing airworthiness assurance management systems and Manuals of Operation and Evaluation (MOE).
- Show a solid grasp of relevant regulatory frameworks governing continuing airworthiness, support the incorporation of regulatory changes, and comply with standards including ITAR, EaPW, and ISO.
- Abide by all contractual obligations related to maintenance activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in Typhoon mechanical maintenance.
- Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship, preferably in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent military training.
- Academic credentials minimum: City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or an equivalent qualification.
- On-aircraft platform training specific to the Typhoon.
- At least one year of experience working within Typhoon Base Maintenance, with documented currency and recency through a Log Book logging skills, knowledge, and authorizations.
- Strong practical understanding and application of aviation safety, safe operating procedures, and familiarity with Expositions and Functionally Mandated Procedures.
- Proficiency with PDR training and IT literacy.
Desirable Skills and Awareness
- Personal adherence to risk assessments and SHE policies.
- Experience and competence using Maintenix (IMS) and Eurofighter Support System (ESS).
- Successful completion of Typhoon Mechanical Q Course.
- Familiarity with E&PW, ITAR standards, and Qatar GFx fire training and Human Factors standard specifications.
