Associate Research Scientist

About the Role

The Min Research Group in the Department of Chemistry at Columbia University seeks an Associate Research Scientist skilled in stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy and its integration with machine learning to advance three-dimensional molecular imaging. This position starts as early as September 2026 with potential renewal depending on performance, eligibility, and funding availability.

Key Responsibilities

The scientist will innovate next-generation vibrational imaging techniques applied to biomedical challenges in brain research, oncology, and neurodegenerative diseases. Specific tasks include developing SRS and Raman-dye multiplexing approaches for volumetric multiplexed imaging; integrating tissue clearing with vibrational microscopy to enable deep-tissue and spatial omics imaging; leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning for enhanced Raman image analysis and reconstruction; conducting label-free and bio-orthogonal metabolic imaging; and performing single-particle chemical imaging related to nanomedicine, especially studying agents crossing the blood-brain barrier. The individual will independently lead multidisciplinary projects, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, maintain and operate advanced Raman microscopy instrumentation, and collaborate widely within a diverse team.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline. A minimum of two years postdoctoral experience is required. Preferred qualifications include extensive expertise in stimulated Raman scattering microscopy, Raman-dye multiplexing, tissue clearing, deep-tissue volumetric imaging, application of machine learning to microscopy image interpretation, experience with spatial omics, nanomedicine imaging, and working with animal models. A strong publication record and the capability to work both independently and cooperatively within research groups are essential.
