Overview

Wood is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer to join their projects team in Saudi Arabia, focusing on the mining sector. This role involves cost estimation, control, and financial analysis to support large-scale mining projects throughout their lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed cost estimates covering all mining project phases such as exploration, development, extraction, processing, and reclamation.
Manage capital and operational budgets, ensuring costs related to equipment, infrastructure, labor, and materials align with approved plans.
Perform financial modeling and feasibility assessments, including life-of-mine cost analysis, to aid project viability decisions.
Participate in tender preparation and contract evaluations for mining equipment and services to optimize expenditures.
Monitor costs against budgets, analyze variance, and recommend corrective actions to prevent budget overruns.
Identify financial risks unique to mining operations and develop contingency strategies to mitigate them.
Evaluate the impact of scope changes or design adjustments and manage corresponding change orders.
Compile regular financial reports, forecasts, and cost updates to maintain transparency for stakeholders.
Support procurement by reviewing supplier pricing and negotiating to achieve cost efficiency.
Ensure accurate estimation and monitoring of costs related to environmental permits, reclamation, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with geologists, engineers, environmental experts, and project managers to ensure cost data accuracy and alignment with project realities.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline.
Master’s degree or advanced certifications in Mining Engineering, Cost Engineering, or Business Administration preferred but not essential.
Certification as a Certified Cost Engineer (CCE) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP) by AACE International.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification considered advantageous.
Additional certifications in risk or environmental management desirable.
A minimum of 5 to 10 years of practical experience in mining cost estimation, control, and financial management, particularly within gold mining or similar resource extraction projects.
Experience managing large capital projects such as infrastructure development, processing plants, and major equipment procurement.

Technical and Soft Skills

In-depth understanding of cost estimation methodologies and budgeting best practices.
Familiarity with mining operations, equipment, and processes.
Proficiency in cost management software tools like SAP, Primavera, or CostX.
Strong financial analysis, economic modeling, and feasibility study capabilities.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance cost factors relevant to mining.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
Effective communication skills with strong report writing and documentation expertise.
Ability to collaborate successfully within cross-disciplinary teams.
Meticulous attention to detail and demonstrated professionalism and integrity.
