Team Overview
The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting (MML) group focuses on cutting-edge automotive technologies shaping the future of mobility. The group blends extensive systems expertise to create innovative vehicle access solutions, intelligent vision systems, and advanced lighting products, emphasizing innovation, safety, and styling.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop components and assemblies, including updates and revisions as necessary.
- Collaborate with project and senior engineers to produce studies and concept sketches that resolve technical challenges and aid design choices.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams during all phases of the product development cycle.
- Innovate solutions addressing project problems while exploring potential new products, patents, and cost savings.
- Create and manage 3D and 2D CAD models following internal and customer requirements, adhering to company protocols; designs may reach full vehicle system complexity considering materials, manufacturing methods, supplier abilities, and industry standards.
- Conduct basic engineering calculations and kinematic evaluations using accepted standards and technical knowledge.
- Coordinate with Analysts to provide data for CAE studies and fine-tune designs based on analytical feedback.
- Implement fundamental Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, including tolerance stack-ups to ensure proper fit and function while accounting for manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Participate in customer meetings and present design-related information as needed.
- Follow CAD change management processes to maintain accuracy and compliance in design submissions.
- Accurately execute Engineering Change Notices while managing revision levels and change sequencing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in CAD tools encompassing solid modeling, assembly management, drafting, and parametric and kinematic analysis.
- Manage data transfers and translations as required.
- Maintain CAD file integrity and comply with company file management standards and best practices.
- Uphold company policies, procedures, work instructions, and standards, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of post-secondary diploma, certificate, or degree in Engineering or relevant field.
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation is preferred.
- Between 1 to 3 years of diverse component and assembly design experience utilizing advanced techniques.
- Strong preference for experience with CATIA V5 software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks within fixed and evolving deadlines.
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management, and database applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work collaboratively within teams.
- Ability to clearly and effectively convey technical information.
- Fundamental understanding of engineering principles applied to automotive components design and development, including use of mathematical tools like dimensional management and kinematics.
Compensation
Annual salary ranges between $55,000 and $80,000.
