About the Role
We are seeking an experienced L2 Developer with a strong background in Telecom domains including Wireless, 5G, 4G, and LTE technologies. The candidate will be based in Bengaluru and will contribute to designing, developing, optimizing, and debugging Layer 2 protocols for next-generation mobile networks.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, code, and implement features and scalable solutions for 4G/5G Layer 2 focusing on both FDD and TDD systems.
- Lead and mentor high-performing Layer 1 teams working on PDCP, RLC, and MAC layers across multiple platforms and integration points including L1, L3, and OAM for high-performance base stations.
- Manage large-scale 4G/5G Layer 2 product development, ongoing maintenance, and customer support across various eNodeB/gNodeB variants including virtualized RAN, Open RAN, and custom deployments.
- Engage and communicate effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders to ensure project and delivery alignment.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.E. or B.Tech degree in any engineering specialization.
- Between 3 to 8 years of relevant experience in telecom software development specifically within MAC scheduling algorithms for LTE eNB and 5G gNB platforms.
- Strong expertise in MAC, RLC, PDCP protocols including segmentation, reassembly, retransmission mechanisms, flow control, packet handling, ciphering, integrity checks, and QoS implementation.
- Understanding of duplexing techniques (TDD vs FDD) and their impact on HARQ, scheduling timings, uplink grants, DRX interactions, buffer status, and logical channel prioritization.
- Experience optimizing latency, throughput, retransmission efficiency, fairness, power saving behaviors, and QoS to radio bearer mappings.
- Familiarity with Layer 2 interfaces to Layer 1 (Physical Layer) and Layer 3, as well as 3GPP RAN architectural splits.
- Proficiency in C, C++, and Python programming languages along with expertise in memory management, state machine design, error handling, and robust interoperability in diverse UE/chipset/network environments.
- Advanced log analysis capabilities for diagnosing system-level issues.
- Hands-on experience with telecom network testing and measurement tools such as QCAT, Viavi, IxLoad Wireless, IxNetwork, Spirent Landslide, and Wireshark.
- Knowledge of FPGA/SoC radio acceleration, SmartNIC/DPU data paths, DPDK, SR-IOV, Linux tuning for virtualized Distributed Unit (DU) and Centralized Unit (CU) deployments, and server architectures including x86 and ARM.
- Ability to diagnose KPI losses through analysis of L2 traces, PCAP files, timing logs, RF test results, and use of protocol decoders and traffic emulators.
- Demonstrated track record in delivering 4G and 5G Layer 2 software projects.
