Role Overview

We are inviting applications for a conscientious and detail-focused Laboratory Assistant to join our expanding team. This vital hands-on role supports the daily functions of our research and development laboratories. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, workstations, storage areas, and shared equipment in accordance with scheduled requirements. Conduct routine environmental checks related to air pressure, humidity, and cleanliness, documenting all activities per company protocols.
  • Carry out cleaning and decontamination of laboratory instruments and labware, ensuring availability of contamination-free materials properly stocked throughout all lab zones.
  • Manage inventory of consumables such as pipette tips, gloves, vials, wipes, and reagents; promptly report low levels to the supervisor and initiate purchase orders; receive deliveries and log stock in the internal system.
  • Oversee maintenance of storage units including ovens, humidity chambers, water baths, refrigerators, freezers, and freeze-dryers, ensuring correct ordering, cleanliness, and conducting scheduled defrost cycles.
  • Handle waste disposal for laboratory and manufacturing areas, including management of samples, reagents, media, and solvents, adhering to COSHH, safety policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform routine calibration of essential laboratory equipment like balances and timers aligning with regulatory and quality standards; support setup, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab instruments as guided.
  • Maintain accurate logs and calibration records for all lab equipment.
  • Assist in sample handling activities including receipt, labeling, sub-sampling, and storage; support data archiving, record keeping, and input of results into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and quality management systems.
  • Complete assigned quality and training tasks promptly and keep up-to-date training documentation.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities are compliant with applicable standards and regulations such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and GxP.
  • Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, fostering a productive laboratory atmosphere.
  • Communicate proactively with team members and management regarding any discrepancies, safety concerns, or issues.
  • Contribute suggestions for continuous process and operational improvements.

Candidate Profile

  • Educational background of A-level, HNC or equivalent is required; a degree in life sciences or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in a laboratory or regulated environment such as industry, academia, or clinical settings.
  • Excellent attention to detail with consistent adherence to procedural instructions.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
