Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Services team, based in either Auckland or Christchurch. The role involves leading the design and delivery of mechanical services in building projects, focusing on HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and related systems across New Zealand and the wider APNA region. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a key part in project lifecycle from concept through to construction and operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of mechanical building services projects.
• Design HVAC, ventilation, heating and cooling mechanical systems.
• Develop technical documents including reports, calculations, specifications, and design documentation.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and various engineering disciplines.
• Conduct site inspections and support construction activities with design reviews.
• Ensure project delivery meets time, budget, and quality requirements.
• Assist proposal preparation and contribute to business development efforts.
• Mentor and guide junior engineering personnel.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Have approximately 3 to 7 years of experience in building services consulting.
• Strong technical expertise in HVAC and mechanical building systems.
• Experience delivering projects in sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, transport, aviation, or public facilities.
• Knowledge of sustainable building design and energy-efficient systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• Working towards professional chartered status.
