Night Shift Planner

Role Overview

The Night Shift Planner is responsible for coordinating transport planning and driver execution during after-hours, ensuring consistent service delivery, cargo safety, and compliance with cold chain standards in night operations. This role functions as the central command during night shifts, upholding the company's reputation and customer commitments when daytime planning teams are unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage local and long-distance driver coordination, addressing incidents, routing, loading, dispatch, and temperature and service risks in real-time.
• Collaborate closely with senior fleet control representatives to maintain operational oversight.
• Exercise decisive intervention when standards for drivers, loading, departures, temperature, or service are not met.
• Make practical, immediate decisions to safeguard customers, cargo, drivers, and the depot.
• Escalate systemic and operational performance issues to senior management appropriately.
• Identify and distinguish isolated incidents from recurring or systemic problems.
• Ensure clear and complete transfer of unresolved risks during shift handovers.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Grade 12 / Matric certificate is mandatory. Additional qualifications in Logistics or Transport are beneficial.
• Valid South African Code 8 driver's license required; Code 10 license is a plus.
• Certifications in First Aid Level 1 and Basic Fire-Fighting are advantageous.
• Possess 3 to 5 years of experience in transport planning, fleet control, dispatch, or operational coordination with a focus on real-time decision making.
• Experience in refrigerated transport is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Cape Town geography and proficiency in planning and tracking software as well as MS Office.

• Must be a South African citizen, with preference given to candidates aligned with the company's employment equity objectives.

Terms and Working Conditions

• Shift timings typically from 14:00 to 23:00, with flexibility as operational needs dictate.
• Shift work includes nights, weekends, and public holidays when necessary.
• Accountability includes ownership of night shift planning decisions, risk management, and quality of shift handovers.
