Job Overview

Reporting to a Team Leader, the Packaging Operator is responsible for operating packaging machinery safely and efficiently while ensuring top product quality and compliance with food safety standards. This role involves equipment setup, operation, continuous monitoring, quality verification, basic troubleshooting, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the workspace. The position also includes ordering packaging supplies, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout procedures. Participation in process improvement activities and collaborative team communication are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and oversee packaging equipment such as scales, baggers, case packers, and sealers.
• Execute product and cut changes, adjust equipment settings to achieve optimal performance.
• Replace parts and manage packaging materials as required.
• Verify product weights, coding on bags and cases, ensuring all meet quality and food safety regulations.
• Perform equipment troubleshooting and basic repairs to reduce downtime.
• Conduct safety inspections, centerline checks, scheduled maintenance, and workspace cleaning.
• Strictly follow safety, food safety, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Keep work areas tidy and ensure proper storage of tools and machinery.
• Record operational data accurately in production systems.
• Communicate effectively using radios and assist other production areas like palletizing.
• Engage in daily team meetings, continuous improvement programs, and cross-training assignments.
• Other tasks as delegated by supervisors.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Clear communication skills with the ability to understand written and spoken instructions.
• A self-driven attitude towards work.
• Physical ability to climb stairs during shifts and remain on feet with a 60/40 walking-to-standing ratio.
• Basic mechanical and computer literacy.
• Proficient in fundamental mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Capability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
