About the Role
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) invites applications for a permanent Terminal Operator position at the Fertilizer Terminal located in Hanley, Saskatchewan, approximately 40 minutes southeast of Saskatoon. This role offers an hourly wage ranging from $23 to $35 based on experience. Eligible candidates residing outside Hanley may receive a commuting allowance to assist with travel expenses.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily operations within the Fertilizer Terminal.
- Operate and monitor equipment involved in loading and unloading fertilizer products.
- Conduct routine cleaning and general maintenance of buildings and terminal grounds.
- Manage quality control tasks such as dust suppression, screening incoming and outgoing products, running conditioners, and maintaining equipment and floors.
- Engage in safety-related activities including meetings, inspections, and observation of safety procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness in shipping and receiving zones to prevent contamination and adhere strictly to safety protocols and personal protective gear use.
Working Conditions
Standard work shifts are eight hours long with timing that varies seasonally. Opportunities for overtime availability increase during peak periods in winter and spring. The role includes participation in an on-call rotation approximately every four weeks, subject to staffing levels.
Team and Customer Interaction
Collaborate closely with three other Terminal Operators under the supervision of the Fertilizer Terminal Supervisor. The team culture emphasizes trust, supportiveness, and congeniality. Customer engagement involves supporting Saskatchewan local Co-ops and farms, as well as liaising directly with product carriers.
Significance of the Role
This position is vital to the Agro team’s mission to nourish and support Western Canadian communities by sourcing and distributing agricultural supplies, including feed, crop inputs, and fertilizers, through local cooperative networks.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum one year of relevant experience; familiarity with mobile equipment operation or agricultural environments is advantageous.
- Completion of Grade 12 education or an equivalent qualification.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to work at heights up to 140 feet and tolerance for dusty conditions.
- Strong communication abilities, mechanical skills relevant to terminal maintenance, and knowledge of fertilizer products.
- Certifications for mobile equipment operation and first aid are beneficial but not mandatory.
