Position Overview
The Traffic Control Flagger is tasked with directing vehicle traffic safely around construction zones, road maintenance areas, and other work sites. Responsibilities include setting up and removing traffic signs, cones, and barricades, and guiding drivers using hand signals and other control devices to ensure safety for both workers and motorists. This role demands keen attention to detail, stamina for prolonged outdoor activity, and the ability to stand and work in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy and remove traffic control devices such as signs and cones around work zones to manage traffic flow effectively.
- Utilize stop/slow paddles to regulate traffic movement safely.
- Maintain communication with team members via two-way radios.
- Stand, walk, and reach continuously for up to 10 hours daily.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles to transport equipment to work sites.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and basic maintenance.
- Work outdoors exposed to varying weather, moving vehicles, fumes, dust, and elevated noise levels.
- Follow all company policies and safety regulations.
- Execute additional assigned duties when needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Successfully clear a background check including motor vehicle records review.
- Pass a drug screening and comply with federal Department of Transportation standards.
- Wear required safety gear including work boots with safety toes, hard hats, safety glasses, and safety vests.
- Proficient in using two-way radios for communication.
- Prepared to work in diverse weather and traffic conditions.
- Capable of effective communication with contractors and internal teams, delivering excellent customer service.
- Work well within a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and strong work ethic.
- Complete ATSSA Flagger training and company Defensive Driver training.
- Willingness to travel with occasional overnight stays and to work nights or weekends as project demands.
