Trainee Back-End Engineer

Position Overview

Join Ola Chat as a Trainee Back-End Engineer based in Singapore, where you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining robust server-side components and APIs. Collaborate with various teams to understand requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions ensuring code quality, security, and performance.

Main Duties

• Develop and sustain server-side modules prioritizing clean, efficient code architecture.
• Design and maintain APIs for product features ensuring secure (least privilege), reliable, and performant implementations.
• Engage in requirement analysis and design technical solutions, working closely with cross-functional teams.
• Integrate external SDKs and services while troubleshooting issues in production environments.
• Continuously explore new technologies, document clearly, and share expertise within the team.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Game Development, or related disciplines; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Fundamental backend development skills in one of the following languages: Go (Golang), PHP (using frameworks like Laravel, Swoole, or Phalcon), or Java.
• Solid grasp of backend essentials such as object-oriented programming, fundamental data structures, basic networking knowledge, and debugging techniques.
• Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL) and data stores (Redis is a plus), along with basic Linux command line proficiency.
• Strong aptitude for learning, sense of ownership, teamwork ability, effective communication, and task completion drive.
• Mandatory fluency in written and spoken Mandarin to coordinate efficiently with headquarters and regional R&D and support teams in China. This includes active participation in Mandarin meetings, interpreting technical documents, and managing project files in Chinese.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Familiarity with backend frameworks applying sound engineering principles such as code review, modular architecture, and reusable services.
• Interest or prior exposure to distributed systems and cloud-native technologies including Docker and Kubernetes, as well as caching and messaging solutions.
• Advantageous to have full-stack experience for client-server collaboration and handling basic deployment or operational tasks.
• Experience leveraging AI-driven tools to enhance productivity across tasks like design, code generation, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, and peer reviews while maintaining quality and maintainability.
