Role overview

Youth Opportunity Investments’ Brooksville Youth Academy in Brooksville, Florida is seeking a full-time Transporter to support safe movement of adolescents in a structured behavioral health setting. The academy is a 72-bed psychiatric residential treatment program for boys ages 13 to 17, providing trauma-informed care for mental health and substance use needs. Young people participate in individual, family, and group therapy, restorative justice work, life-skills training, vocational preparation, and enrichment activities such as art, music, recreation, yoga, and equine therapy. Care is delivered around the clock in small residential units to help each youth stabilize emotionally and prepare to return to the community.

Compensation

This role pays $15.00 per hour.

What the job involves

The Transporter supports transportation operations for youth attending the program and other scheduled activities. The position calls for careful driving, attention to detail, and a consistent focus on safety and support for youth during travel.

Transport duties

• Move youth to and from the program and other required activities on schedule.
• Help build and maintain efficient pick-up and drop-off route plans.
• Drive vans and other assigned vehicles safely while following company rules and traffic regulations.
• Keep vehicles maintained, inspected, cleaned, and serviced at a basic operator level.
• Finish vehicle safety checklists before and after each trip.
• Monitor youth while in transit and help ensure appropriate behavior and safety.
• Report vehicle safety concerns, damage, or incidents right away.

Additional expectations

• Model appropriate behavior for youth at all times.
• Stay in contact with program staff during transport, and do not use a phone while operating the vehicle.
• Take part in training and development activities as needed.
• Watch for and report any situations that could suggest improper youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth interactions.
• Handle other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience driving safely, along with a clean and proven safe driving record.
• Ability to work effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including youth and adults.

Preferred background

• About two years of experience working with youth is preferred.
• Experience in a residential treatment setting or youth program is helpful.

Other requirements and working conditions

• Must be able to transport youth, remain seated for at least half of the workday, and occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds.
• The job requires sustained attention to road and traffic conditions while supervising youth.
• Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state.
• A valid state driver’s license is required.
• Must satisfy state criminal background check requirements.
• Must be able to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must meet Youth Opportunity Investments’ auto insurance requirements and be authorized to drive for business purposes.
