About Oji Fibre Solutions and Role Overview
Based at our Paper Bag facility in Penrose, Auckland, Oji Fibre Solutions is New Zealand’s premier pulp, paper, and packaging solutions manufacturer serving diverse industries nationally and internationally. Our Paper Bag division designs and manufactures multi-wall bags for sectors including Dairy, Cement, Flour, and Sugar, supplying both domestic and overseas markets.
This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager and involves creating and implementing automation strategies aimed at optimizing our manufacturing processes. A key priority is enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring disruption-free equipment function. This demanding position merges technical expertise with strong communication, providing opportunities to significantly influence manufacturing outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply electrical engineering and automation improvements to boost product quality, minimize machine downtime, and increase operational speed.
- Deploy and maintain manufacturing computer systems to track and report process performance data.
- Offer ongoing technical assistance for electrical engineering systems, including Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) machinery.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers to deliver on-site technical support as needed.
- Supply engineering guidance and expertise to the maintenance team to reinforce equipment reliability.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- A minimum of three years' experience in Automation or Electrical Engineering within a manufacturing context.
- Proficiency with industrial control technologies such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Omron PLCs, as well as experience with Kawasaki robots and various drive systems (Siemens, Omron).
- Project management skills with a focus on continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Self-driven and motivated work ethic.
- Essential tertiary qualifications; a Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office suite and database systems.
- Electrical engineering experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Functional Safety principles is a plus.
