About The Role

Become a part of an innovative energy technology startup developing the operating system that drives the future of energy management. This platform supports modular billing engines, low-level energy market communication protocols, and a comprehensive accounting ledger, enabling flexible electricity plans that help both companies and individual consumers significantly cut energy expenses.

As a Backend Engineer within the core infrastructure group, your responsibility will be to design and enhance the essential systems enabling this platform. Your work will span billing processes, payment systems, and distributed data services in an environment with high autonomy and minimal bureaucracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect elegant, maintainable solutions addressing complex infrastructure challenges.
• Develop and scale core services that facilitate billing, energy market interactions, and accounting at scale.
• Demonstrate a strong bias towards action by moving swiftly, delivering iterative improvements, and owning your projects end-to-end.
• Enhance engineering standards, improve code quality, and contribute positively to team practices.

Required Qualifications

• Expertise in backend development using TypeScript with Node.js, and a deep understanding of asynchronous programming models.
• Practical experience with PostgreSQL databases and Object-Relational Mapping tools, preferably Drizzle ORM, for building reliable data access layers.
• Knowledge of Next.js framework including experience with its API routes or server components as backend services.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts and the ability to design scalable, maintainable core backend services.
• Fluent in English at C1 level or above, both spoken and written.
• Strong foundational knowledge in computer science, either through formal education or equivalent hands-on experience.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience integrating Stripe payment processing and associated billing workflows.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Temporal or API frameworks such as Hono.
• Background working in energy, fintech, or other regulated and complex infrastructure domains.

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
• A strong sense of ownership, treating challenges as personal responsibilities rather than tasks to delegate.
• Adaptability and comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and uncertain startup environment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary range of $80,000 to $120,000 USD or equivalent local currency.

Location and Work Arrangement
